Looking Back on Dawg Days in the Desert
Every March, UW alumni and friends gather in Southern California for the decades-old tradition of Dawg Days in the Desert. It’s a chance to soak up the sun, celebrate the Husky spirit and learn more about the current Husky experience. This year, more than a dozen events sponsored by various social groups and colleges occurred over a two-week period.
The UW Alumni Association was proud to lend its support to two of Dawg Days in the Desert’s signature events. On March 13, nearly 150 alumni gathered for the Desert Scholarship Luncheon at the Toscana Country Club. Attendees enjoyed delicious food in a beautiful setting, with a special program featuring celebrated alumni Warren Moon, ’78, and Steve Pool, ’77. Proceeds from this event support student scholarships.
Dawg Days in the Desert concluded on March 15 with the ever-popular Chow Down to Washington. This year’s party was held at the Palm Springs Air Museum. The 300 guests were encouraged to arrive early and explore the museum’s vast collection of historic military aircraft. Joining the festivities were UW Football Head Coach Chris Petersen, UW President Ana Mari Cauce and Mike Halperin, Be Boundless – For Washington, For the World Campaign General Chair. The latter two surprised the gathered crowd with their dramatic entrance, arriving at the party with style in a military jeep. That set the tone for a fun-filled evening of food, friends and dancing — proving once again that when alumni and friends gather, the sky’s the limit.
