A group of Biology graduate students got together and decided to make a difference by forming a biology sustainability group. Their goal: to assess the department’s environmental footprint, set up programs to reduce consumption, and educate others about how to better steward the environment. The group is planning a winter graduate seminar called, “Measuring a Department’s Ecological Footprint.” The goal of this seminar will be to identify types of resource uses/waste, develop and implement a measuring protocol, and design recommendations to increase sustainability. They are now developing a website that features sources of information, tips, factoids, and a suggestion box, as well as quarterly progress updates.
