A note from the Scholarship Saturday event team
Emily Murphy was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She’s in her third year at the UW and is majoring in history, with minors in classical studies and education, learning and society. She joined Dream Project in January of 2014 and is thrilled to be the Scholarship Saturday event coordinator for the coming year. The best part of her DP experience thus far is working with other mentors to support mentees and gaining event experience. Stay tuned for future updates from Emily, the newly minted event coordinator, for information on upcoming events! Scholarship Saturday is right around the corner! Last year’s event had more than 100 students participate—a record number! With the success of the 2014 Admissions Workshop Weekend, our goal for this year’s Scholarship Saturday is to double last year’s attendance and have more than 200 students come to campus to receive assistance on their scholarships. We plan to work with Dream Project’s CCRAs and reach out to non-partner schools to reach this goal. Planning for Scholarship Saturday has already begun with Alyssa Hatsukami and me, Emily Murphy, as event coordinators, and Tessa Stephenson as event lead. The first week of winter quarter will mark the beginning of formal meetings with the planning committee. The committee is made up of eight students who each take on a role in a specific area: transportation, facilities, student recruitment, technology and food. This is my first event as an event coordinator and I am so thrilled to be taking on this position! I can’t wait to see the turnout of students at this year’s Scholarship Saturday!
