Educators lost a talented colleague and a trusted friend with the untimely passing of Professor Bill Winn in May. Please help preserve Bill’s memory and honor his career by making a gift to the Bill Winn Memorial Fund. The fund will be administered by the University of Washington College of Education and support deserving students in the fields of educational technology and the learning sciences.
Bill served on the College of Education faculty for more than 20 years. He was fascinated by how people learned by using maps, charts, and diagrams, and spent much of his career trying to harness the possibilities new technology presented for this kind of learning. He wrote or co-authored at least 35 papers investigating the use of new technology to enhance instruction. He also served as Director of the Human Interface Technology Lab at the University of Washington until the time of his death.
For students, Bill’s kindness and decency were the equal of his impressive academic achievements. They remember Bill for treating all students with respect. He conveyed a genuine concern about their progress, even when their work had no bearing on his own. Like many of us, students were struck by his kindness, and inspired by his encouragement to persevere in their academic pursuits.
A gift to the Bill Winn Memorial Fund is a fitting tribute to Bill’s dual legacy of academic achievement and student support. Please consider giving generously.
