As the demographics of Washington’s schools continue to change, can our schools meet the ever-higher expectations of achievement for all students?
On Thursday, February 15 at Town Hall, the UW College of Education will engage the community in a public discussion about reshaping learning, providing equity in teaching, and helping students and teachers adapt to changing classrooms. A panel of six College researchers, each focused on varied places where achievement gaps might be found, will present their findings, then continue the conversation with audience participation.
UW College of Education research points out that achievement gaps exist between minorities and non-minorities, between low-income students and the more affluent, and between typically developing and developmentally disabled children. Professors Phil Bell, Frances Contreras, Carol Davis, Chrysan Gallucci, Margery Ginsberg, and Lani Horn will share how their experiences in Washington homes, schools, and administrative offices inform how the community might allow its own diverse strengths to shape its learning.
Event partners include the Alliance for Education, Philanthropy Northwest, Powerful Schools, Rainier Scholars, and the Washington Alliance for Better Schools.
