New HMB Graduate Assistant Director

Husky Band Director Brad McDavid is pleased to announce that Preston Prior of Fort Worth, Texas, has been selected as the newest Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Husky Athletic Band program. Preston is the most recent doctoral level teaching assistant and the latest in a successful line of outstanding instrumental music teachers who have chosen to come to the UW in the hope of eventually becoming a collegiate marching band director.

Preston, who graduated with his Master’s Degree from the University of Texas at Arlington just last month, had this to say about his recent decision to come to the University of Washington for his doctoral studies:

“Ecstatic and honored are the words that come to mind when I begin to think of coming to the UW to be the next Husky Marching Band Graduate Assistant. I am so thrilled to be joining such a renowned program and its great people and musicians. It will be a privilege to serve the band—including its members, staff, and alumni—and I feel lucky to be part of such a storied program, with its tremendous tradition of excellence. It is going to be a great opportunity for me; I'll get to assist the band and bring to the program my own unique skill set, but at the same time, it will be an excellent and invaluable learning experience that will undoubtedly influence me throughout my career and for the rest of my life. The other day I cut myself, and I noticed my blood already had some purple hues to it. I think that's a good sign that I'm a Husky now! I'm tremendously excited and looking forward to joining the Husky Band this upcoming academic year!” 

Preston will begin his duties on August 1. He fills the assistantship previously held by Dan McDonald, who recently completed his three-year appointment and is in the process of completing his doctoral degree in conducting.
