The Chronicle of Higher Education ranks our Department of Biostatistics first in the nation among public universities (third overall), based on the scholarly productivity of its faculty.

The Center for Public Health Informatics (CPHI) won second place for its poster at the 6th annual Public Health Information Network Conference in 2008. The 8 foot by 4 foot poster showed CPHI research on using open-source mapping systems to map health data that could provide vital information quickly in a disease outbreak.

Global Health’s Center for AIDS Research, one of the first AIDS research centers in the country, was awarded $16.5 million for the next five years to continue its trailblazing work in providing a cost-effective infrastructure for HIV/AIDS researchers.

Our School was one of only seven awarded a grant ($6.4 million) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for public health preparedness research, specifically to improve communications in preparedness and response.

Kathy Hall, managing editor of Northwest Public Health and former communications director in DEOHS, along with graphic designer Cathy Schwartz, won an award of excellence in the 2008 International Technical Publications Competition sponsored by the Society for Technical Communication. The award was for the 2007 DEOHS calendar.

Dylan Wilbanks, webmaster in the Dean’s Office, was invited to speak at South by Southwest (SXSW) 2009, the largest Web and technology conference in the world. Dylan co-presented on The Web in Higher Education: What's Different?
