From the Dean
As a newly arrived dean debuting in SPH E-news, the first thing to say is THANKS. Thanks to Dean Pat Wahl, who led the School with steadfastness, grace and vision…thanks to the phenomenal staff in the Dean’s office…and thanks to the entire School community. More... News Did you know that sales of SPH Gear support students? Join Howie, Pat and Summer and help fill up the Student Emergency Fund. In other news, the School lands a new Advancement leader and millions in new research awards. Faculty Read about our eight new faculty members; retirements, moves, and other transitions (Dave Eaton is the new acting vice provost for Research); and more faculty news. Centers & Institutes Imagine two people: One is completely blind, and the other suffers from constant and intense back pain. Overall, who is healthier? A landmark global health survey from IHME will measure the impact of different diseases and injuries, and we welcome your participation. More... Students Grab your shades and check out the bright future of public health. Over 350 new grad students started SPH classes last month; we hear from five of them, including Katie McDonald in DEOHS, about their dreams and goals. Plus SPARX! Alumni It’s that time again: the School’s Alumni Advisory Board is calling for nominations for the 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award. Plus, Michaela Leslie-Rule has received a Young Investigator Award from AIS and ANRS. Now—where’s your news? Calendar We have plenty to keep you busy over the next few months; see what's in store.
