Welcome to an interactive history of the University of Washington. Explore the rich history of the UW and experience the events, creations, discoveries and notable alumni that make this a special place. It's built and managed by the UW Alumni Association.
The Timeline is in beta—that means it's not quite ready for primetime, so our apologies for any errors or omissions. And coming soon: UW alumni will be able to plot themselves on the timeline and be a part of history!
The Timeline is made possible with the generous support of Microsoft's Live@edu program—a complimentary e-mail service specifically for UW alumni. Learn more about UW Windows Live and Microsoft benefits for alumni.
The UW Interactive Timeline is based on the the open-source Timeline Simile widget, develped at MIT.
Feedback:
Please contact the UWAA with any suggestions, questions or complaints. We'd love to hear what you think.
The UWAA has made every attempt to insure the accuracy of the information, but it's a big project and there's probably a few errors (we blame the WSU grad who works here). Please let us know if you spot any.
The UW Interactive Timeline shows more than 200 notable alumni, events and discoveries at UW. It begins with the University's founding in 1861 and runs through the present day.
Navigation:
To move through the timeline, use you mouse to click on the background and then drag it to the right (to be back in time) or to the left (to go forward in time). You can also use your mouse's scroll wheel. If you double-click on a spot, the timeline will move so it's centered on that spot.
There's also a set of links below the timeline that allow you to skip to a certain year.
Timeline Entries:
Click on a name or title on the timeline and a box will open up with details. Each features a quick description and links to find out more.
The entries on the timeline are divided into five categories: Notable Huskies, Events, UW Creations and Discoveries, Husky Sports and UW Presidents. Each category has a different color box on the timeline.
Entries by You (and other Alumni & Friends):
The bottom part of the Timeline is devoted to entries by you and other alumni and friends of UW. Click on the "You" link of the left to get started.
To view details entered by alumni and friends, you'll need to be logged in with a UW NetID.
