Arts Roundup: Dance, music – and IMPFest
This week, enjoy a bevy of events that range from the painting and drawing exhibition at the Jacob Lawrence Gallery to IMPFest at the Floyd and Delores Jones Playhouse. Then, cap off the end of next week with a performance by the UW Opera featuring G.F. Hande’s “Semele.”

Faculty Recital: Mark Seales, piano
May 8 | Floyd and Delores Jones Playhouse
Seales, a Jazz studies professor, performs American songs — jazz, blues, gospel and selections from the great American songbook in this solo piano performance. More info.
Improvised Music Project (IMP) Fest
May 9-11 | Floyd and Delores Jones Playhouse
The UW’s Improvised Music Project presents the sixth annual IMPfest, a pairing of UW Jazz students and world-class guest artists. Featured artists are drummer Billy Hart, bassist Ben Street, keyboardist Pete Rende, and singer-songwriter Holly Palmer. The festival features three evenings of performances by guest artists joined by UW faculty Cuong Vu, Ted Poor, and Bill Frisell. More info.

UW Opera: G.F. Handel’s ‘Semele’
May 16-18 | Meany Theater
The UW School of Music and Pacific MusicWorks present a new staging of G. F. Handel’s English oratorio. This opera illuminates the darkly comedic story of a mortal woman’s tryst with a dangerous God. Chaos ensues in the wake of unbridled lust, jealousy and revenge. More info.
U-District Street Fair
