Who we are
At the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel and Faculty (APF), we’re a dedicated team of strategic partners committed to championing the University of Washington’s faculty, librarians, residents and fellows, postdocs, and academic staff. Our goal? To recruit, nurture and empower exceptional talent, fostering leadership and faculty excellence.
We believe collaboration is key to excellence.
By championing the unique passions and common goals of UW faculty and all academic personnel, we support a community of leaders who dare to be boundless.
Academic Human Resources
Academic HR, under the Office for Academic Personnel and Faculty, collaborates across campuses to facilitate recruitment, hiring, retention, and promotion of faculty, librarians, and academic staff.
We aim to be a premier resource, offering guidance on policies and practices to support your success and advancement.
Inclusive Excellence
Inclusive Excellence, under the Office for Academic Personnel & Faculty, takes the lead in fostering equity and inclusion among faculty members. Through collaborative initiatives across the university, Inclusive Excellence supports the recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty, striving to create inclusive environments that recognize and support excellence in research, teaching, and service, thereby enriching the academic community as a whole.
Faculty Development
The Office for Academic Personnel and Faculty is dedicated to fostering faculty development, aligning recruitment with the University’s core values. We provide support in research, teaching, and service, ensuring success at every stage of your career—from leadership development and promotion to tenure, retirement, and beyond.
ADVANCE Center for Institutional Change
UW ADVANCE is a leading resource for academic leadership and gender equity in STEM. We catalyze systemic change through programming that supports the success of women faculty in STEM and academic leaders.
Collaboration is the cornerstone of great leadership. Just as our ability to prepare students, conduct groundbreaking research, and engage with the world hinges on the caliber of our faculty, so too does our collective success rely on our capacity to collaborate effectively.

Faculty Senate
The UW system of shared governance makes it a responsibility of faculty to share with the administration the day-to-day governance of the university. There are four institutions of faculty governance with different sets of responsibilities: Faculty Senate, Secretary of the Faculty, university faculty councils, and schools, colleges & campuses.
