Reasons for Taking Summer Quarter
Focus group participants took summer quarter to:

Get prerequisites out of the way.

Catch up with credits.

Stay on track or graduate early.

Take advantage of tuition reduction for out-of-state students.

Focus attention on one challenging class.
Reasons for Not Taking Summer Quarter
Focus group participants did not take summer quarter because they:

Need to work to finance their education and/or support themselves.

Have always had summers off and are not in a hurry.
-
Find it hard to focus in the summer and want to avoid burnout.

Don't find enough classes or appropriate classes offered in the summer.
-
Need the job experience and internships are more valuable.
