Draft of proposed revision to the Faculty Code

Section 21-65. The Tri-Campus Faculty Conference (A Proposed New Section of the UW Faculty Code

  1. The Tri-Campus Faculty Conference shall be the primary forum for reviewing faculty policies, procedures, and legislative proposals affecting the three campuses of the University of Washington. It shall address significant matters of policy, academic and nonacademic, concerning inter-relationships among the faculty of the three campuses.

  2. The Tri-Campus Faculty Conference shall be comprised of three members of the voting faculty from each campus of the University of Washington: 1)the Vice Chairs of the UW Bothell's General Faculty Organization, of the UW Tacoma's Faculty Assembly, and of the UW Faculty senate; and 2) two other faculty from each campus, appointed, respectively, by the elected Executive Committees/Councils of the above-named faculty organizations.

  3. Appointments shall be for three years, effective 16 September, and members may be re-appointed for a second, consecutive three-year term. (A Vice Chair shall serve for as long as she or he holds that position, and may be subsequently appointed to a single three-year term.)

  4. The Chair of the Tri-Campus Faculty Conference shall be elected by the members of the Conference and shall serve a one-year term, and be eligible fore election to a second, consecutive year. The Chair shall also be a voting member of both the Faculty Senate Executive Committee and the Faculty Senate.

THIS WILL REQUIRE COMPLEMENTARY AMENDMENT OF THE SECTIONS DEALING WITH MEMBERSHIP OF THE SEC AND SENATE.)

  1. The Vice Chairs of the three faculty organizations shall be responsible for regularly communicating the actions and recommendations of the Conference to the faculty of their respective campuses, and for informing the Conference of any proposed legislation or policy recommendations being considered by those organizations which may affect faculty o the other campuses.
