THIS CLASS WILL EXPLORE THE DIRECT IMPACT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND ENSUING ECONOMIC CRISIS ON LOW INCOME CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. WE WILL FOCUS ON HOW POVERTY AND RACE DISPARITIES IMPACT THE HEALTH OF MARGINALIZED POPULATIONS, THE DISTRIBUTION OF VACCINES, THE EFFECTS OF REMOTE SCHOOLING AND LEARNING LOSS, AND WHETHER IT MAKES SENSE TO HAVE STUDENTS RETURN TO IN PERSON CLASSROOMS. WE WILL ALSO LOOK AT THE CHALLENGES OF FINDING AFFORDABLE QUALITY CHILD CARE AS WELL AS HUNGER AND HOUSING INSECURITY ISSUES THAT ARE A DIRECT RESULT OF COVID-19. FINALLY, THIS CLASS WILL EXAMINE THE EFFORTS PRIVATE PHILANTHROPY AND THE RESPONSE OF THE STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO THIS CRISIS. DURING CLASS, WE WILL HAVE IN-DEPTH CONVERSATIONS AND HEAR PRESENTATIONS FROM LEADING EXPERTS FROM LOW INCOME FAMILIES FROM ACROSS WASHINGTON STATE.
