THEY WILL DEVELOP AND WORKSHOP A SHORT PIECES OF WRITING (600-2,000 WORDS) ON BLACK EMBODIMENTS IN THE CONTEMPORARY, POST-1970S MOMENT. BY THE END OF THE QUARTER, THEY WILL HAVE A PIECE THAT CAN BE PUBLISHED IN A VARIETY OF OUTLETS THAT PRESS AGAINST THE BOUNDARIES OF ACADEMIC WRITING SUCH AS PERFORMA MAGAZINE, ART LIES, AND ARTFORUM AND THE JOURNAL OF THE JACOB LAWRENCE GALLERY, MONDAY; WRITING THAT CAN BE INCORPORATED INTO YOUR LARGER THESIS PROJECTS; AND/OR WRITING THAT CAN BE FURTHER REVISED INTO SCHOLARLY PEER-REVIEW ARTICLES. THIS CLASS COINCIDES WITH THE RACE AND MEDIA CONFERENCE ORGANIZED BY THE CENTER FOR COMMUNICATION DIFFERENCE AND EQUITY ON THE UW CAMPUS, AND IT WILL HELP YOU GET THE MOST OUT OF THIS RARE CHANCE TO SEE AND MEET A WIDE VARIETY OF RACE AND MEDIA SCHOLARS.
