Technology Recharge Fee and Self-Sustaining Services
Technology Recharge Fee
The Technology Recharge Fee (TRF) was established in 2010 to provide a sustainable long-term funding model for critical information technology services at the UW. The fee is a per capita rate paid by all UW academic and administrative units that along with central funds pay for the basic services. - $55.51 per month per capita for all academic and administrative units.
- $50.91 per month per capita for the Medical Centers.
The rates represent a 1.9 percent increase for FY 2016, the first net increase since the fee was implemented in FY 2011. The increase was necessary to address rising costs of IT operations. See below for more information.

Technology Fee Review and Rate Setting Process
The IT Service Investment Board is charged by the Provost with conducting an annual review of the TRF level and methodology. The Provost approved the Board's recommendation to increase the TRF level by 1.9 percent for FY 2016.
This is the first overall net increase in the TRF rate since it was implemented in FY 2011. The increase is necessary to address escalating costs of IT operations, including enterprise software licensing, network security, geographic resiliency and critical facilities infrastructure.
Under the Board’s recommendation, the methodology and basic bundle of services remain unchanged from FY 2015.
The Board’s recommendation reflects advice from the Technology Recharge Fee Advisory Committee, comprised of UW School and College administrators representing academic and administrative units and UW Medical Centers, which provides the Board with in-depth analysis and counsel.
