What You Can Do Now

The new Title II Rule on digital accessibility is about transforming how we create, share, and interact with digital content. Embracing this change means undergoing a University wide effort to foster an inclusive digital environment where everyone can access and benefit from our digital presence. Here are some steps that faculty and staff can take now to prepare for this important transformation:

Learn what UW is already doing to address digital accessibility

Follow along as the ADA Digital Accessibility Initiative leads the work across UW to comply with Department of Justice regulations by April 2026 and beyond.

Some units have a coordinator for this work and have developed unit-specific approaches. Check with the IT Accessibility Liaisons to see if your unit already has work underway.

Build a strong understanding of digital accessibility

UW-IT Accessible Technology Services offers numerous resources to help build your awareness and understanding of accessibility. To learn more about the accessibility of technologies, refer to the pages that are most relevant to the content that you create:

Review and inventory current content

Before making your digital content accessible, it is important to inventory the content that you or your unit is responsible for. Create an inventory spreadsheet that documents your content. This may include webpages, course content, various document types, videos, social media, and more. Track attributes of your content in the spreadsheet such as:

  • Is it accurate?
  • Is it up to date?
  • Is it relevant?
  • Is it redundant?
  • Is it accessible?

Remove old and duplicated content

Delete or archive web content that is no longer accurate, up-to-date, or relevant. A webpage without extra pages and files is easier to make accessible and is easier for users to navigate effectively. Duplicated content can clutter your digital space and make it harder to manage accessibility.
