Monthly UW Web Accessibility and Usability Meetup

These monthly meetups, formerly known as “Explore with Hadi”, provide an opportunity for UW web developers and designers to discuss accessibility and usability issues in a relaxed, casual setting, and provide friendly feedback on each others’ web projects. We encourage you to bring your accessibility questions or just join us to see what others are working on. Meetings are hosted by Hadi Rangin, a web accessibility specialist with UW-IT Accessible Technology Services. Hadi has a Master’s degree in computer science and is a screen reader user himself, so these meetings are great opportunities to experience how your website might be experienced by someone using assistive technology.

Meetups are now held at a new time: On the 4th Tuesday of each month, 11:00am – Noon. The agenda and Zoom URL are announced a few days prior to the event on the AccessibleWeb@U email list (see below for details about the list). If you would like to attend and are not a subscriber to this list, please contact us by sending an email to help@uw.edu or by submitting our Accessibility Consultation Form (requires a UW NetID) and we’ll send you the link.

Course Accessibility Lunch & Learn

Faculty and course designers are invited to join an informal, friendly conversation about making online components of courses accessible to students with disabilities. Ask questions about accessibility and universal design for learning (UDL), hear colleagues’ ideas, and share what is working for your own courses!

This series, formerly known as Monthly UW Instruction Accessibility Meetups, is hosted by Mary-Colleen Jenkins, a instruction accessibility specialist with Accessible Technology Services (ATS). Mary-Colleen is a former UW instructor herself, so this is a great opportunity to discuss logistics and how to set priorities for improving course accessibility without feeling overwhelmed.

Meetups are typically on the 1st Tuesday of each month, from 12-1:00 pm on Zoom. All Lunch & Learns are open to interested members of the UW community but require registration. We are currently taking a summer break. Please stay tuned for announcements for topics starting in October.

Summer Series: Collaborative Accessibility Problem Solving (CAPS)

Join colleagues for this informal networking series with faculty support partners across the UW system for collaborative problem-solving. We’ll talk about challenges we face and how we can support faculty in accessibility efforts in the coming academic year.

Your host, Mary-Colleen Jenkins, an instruction accessibility specialist with Accessible Technology Services, will begin each session’s discussion with a digital accessibility topic, question, or challenge and we’ll see where the conversation goes.

Register for sessions below to receive a Zoom link and reminder notification. Feel free to bring your lunch to one, two, or all three scheduled sessions.

Sessions are from noon to 1:00pm on the following Tuesdays:

Accessible Technology Webinar Series

We currently have no new webinars scheduled, but video recordings and links to resources from past webinars are available on the Webinar Series Archives page.

Digital Accessibility Liaisons meetings

Digital Accessibility Liaisons are staff and faculty who represent their work unit, large or small, in a tri-campus movement to build digital accessibility awareness, learn new skills, and promote the procurement and use of digital content that is accessible to everyone, particularly to students, faculty, and staff with disabilities.

The Digital Accessibility Liaisons network is a community of colleagues who are excited to learn more about digital accessibility and to build their own skills so they can share what they learn with their units. Among other activities, they meet as a group several times per year for training and discussion. For more information, including instructions on how to become a Liaison, see the Digital Accessibility Liaisons page.

AccessibleWeb@U

AccessibleWeb@U is a community of UW web designers, developers, and other interested people who discuss and share ideas on accessible web design through their online discussion list.
