Am I required to make content posted by someone else accessible?
If content meets the follow criteria, it is third party content and is not required to meet with WCAG 2.1 AA.
- If It was posted by a third party on a UW website or mobile app; and
- It was not posted due to contractual, licensing, or other arrangements with the UW
Note: You may still have to provide web content in an accessible format if an individual requests it. See the DOJ rule on digital accessibility, paragraph 34.
Examples
- A message that a member of the public posts on a University’s online message board is not required to be accessible
- Content posted on a UW website posted by a contracted consultant must be accessible
- A social media post created by a marketing firm contracted to post content for an initiative campaign must be accessible
- A website created by a web designer hired by a UW department must be accessible
