The earth shook. The sky darkened. Lava flowed from an erupting volcano, encasing cities in ash and extreme heat.
Pompeii famously vanished beneath thick layers of volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in 79. But what nature destroyed it also preserved.
POMPEII: The Exhibition showcases this city, hidden for centuries until its rediscovery a little more than 250 years ago. On Friday, March 20, UWAA members can tour this acclaimed show after-hours!
From garden frescoes and marble statues to gladiator helmets and religious altars, experience authentic elements of an ancient Roman city. Then relive the catastrophic eruption through a jolting CGI experience, culminating in a gallery of 10 full-body casts of Pompeiians forever frozen in their final moments.
Admission for members is just $16 — normally $32.50. Members are also invited to attend a free lecture by UW history professor Sandra Joshel on the slavery and material culture of ancient Pompeii before the exhibition.
