Darryl Potyk, Associate Dean for Eastern Washington for the University of Washington School of Medicine, and André Ritter, Dean of the University of Washington School of Dentistry, will share the key successes of the Health Partnership and RIDE program as well.
This free event coincides with the UW Alumni Association’s “509 Day,” which highlights Eastern Washington alumni.

A professor of psychology and American Ethnic Studies, Ana Mari Cauce has been a member of the UW faculty since 1986. She became the UW’s 33rd president in 2015, having previously served in many leadership positions, including provost and Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Throughout her career, she has been a staunch advocate for women and underrepresented minorities in STEM and for ensuring access to affordable, excellent higher education. Cauce earned her B.A. in English and psychology from the University of Miami and a Ph.D. in psychology from Yale University. She has received numerous awards for her teaching, scholarship and advocacy, including the James M. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award of the American Psychological Association and the UW Distinguished Teaching Award.

Dr. Potyk has been involved in undergraduate and graduate medical education for over 25 years. He is an Internist and Geriatrician by training and remains clinically active. He has served as an Associate Program Director as well as a Program Director for the Internal Medicine and Transitional Year residency programs in Spokane, WA. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and serves as the Program Director, overseeing all aspects of academics and operations for the UWSOM-Spokane campus. The Spokane campus has 60 students in each year of the Foundations phase of education as well as offering various options for clinical education.
Dr. Potyk has served on numerous non-profit boards of directors. He has also served as Medical Staff President at both the Providence and Deaconess medical systems. He is a member of the Gold Humanism Society and has over 30 publications in peer review journals. His interests range from the humanities in medical education, medical consultation/perioperative management and geriatrics.
Dr. André Ritter became Dean of the University of Washington School of Dentistry in September 2022 after serving as professor and chair of the Department of Cariology and Comprehensive Care at the New York University School of Dentistry. Before that, he was executive dean and chief operating officer of the University of North Carolina’s Adams School of Dentistry, where he was Thomas P. Hinman Distinguished Professor of Restorative Dentistry in the Department of Operative Dentistry.
At the UW School of Dentistry, Dean Ritter also holds the rank of professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. He has a DDS from Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil, an MS in operative dentistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MBA in health-care administration from Northeastern University in Boston, and a PhD in dentistry from Universidade Positivo in Brazil.
His research interests include diagnosis and management of tooth decay, conservative/minimally invasive restorative dentistry, esthetics, dental adhesion, and composite resin applications. He has extensively published peer-reviewed research, and was senior editor of the seventh edition of the Sturdevant’s Art & Science of Operative Dentistry textbook, published by Elsevier.
A longtime clinician, he practiced privately in Brazil and in the faculty practices at NYU and the University of North Carolina. He is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honorary society. In 2019, he was awarded the Samuel Fonseca Medal of Honor by Brazil’s Santa Catarina Academy of Dentistry.
