Why I Serve
Isabeau Rosen
I grew up in a Husky neighborhood, awash in purple and gold with UW flags flying. My family emigrated from Australia and the UW was part of the community fabric woven into our new home.
UW Bothell’s mix of classroom learning and real-world application spoke to me. For example, I took the popular “bee class” (Pollinator Diversity and Conservation). Sessions began with an in-classroom lecture followed by exploring campus to observe bees in their natural habitat (UW Bothell is a Certified Bee Campus). I believe such a combination represents a university experience at its best.
The UW empowers students to break out of academic silos and opens doors to entire worlds. I enrolled in the design course, Games for Change. From board games to video games, it was exciting to explore the social and personal impacts of gaming. My passion was ignited at UW Bothell, and thanks to the recognition and encouragement of my professors, a career path opened in front of me.
I love that the UW endeavors to remain cutting edge and reflect the evolving needs of society and its students. Some institutions are resistant to change, but the UW is enthusiastic to learn and evolve.
My personal mission is rooted in service. As a student at UW Bothell, I served as ASUWB President, participated in the UW Provost Search Committee, organized voter registration drives, civic engagement fairs, and was a recipient of the 2022 Washington College Compact Student Civic Leadership Award. As a Trustee, I want to encourage young alumni to remain involved. You’re a Husky for longer than you’re a student. It’s a community you join for life.
