Out and About Around the Husky Globe: Summer 2023
Here’s what the UW’s international alumni and friends have been up to during the last few months.
Nursing alumni hold event in Thailand
In February, the Thailand Huskies hosted UW School of Nursing dean, Azita Emami at a dinner gathering. Nursing alumni had a chance to gather and connect while hearing the latest updates from campus.
Hong Kong alumni celebrate Diamond Award
Doug Wallack joined alumni in Hong Kong in February to celebrate Victor Wong, ’75 (back row, second from right) for his winning the Diamond Award from the UW College of Engineering, which recognizes significant contributions to the field of Engineering.
Taiwan alumni chapter resumes in-person events
In February, the Taiwan alumni chapter held its first official annual meeting since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, kicking off a busy calendar of chapter-led events for the year including happy hours, AI-focused lectures, and more.
Alumni business leader speaks with students
In May, Hong Kong Husky Yuen Mei Chow, ’88, offered life and career advice to current undergraduates in the Foster School, drawing on nearly three decades of work building her company Sea Horse into Hong Kong’s premier mattress and home goods firm.
Alumni industry leaders speak on campus
In May, Taiwan Husky Jon Hodowany, ’03 (left), visited Seattle to speak on supply chain management at an on-campus conference on trends in US-Taiwan business. (Not pictured, Husky alumna Tina Chen, ’03, formerly of Hong Kong, also spoke on a panel for the conference.)
Beijing and Shanghai chapters share expertise
We love to see alumni from different chapters collaborating together like this summer when Beijing Husky Jack Ding, ’11, invited Shanghai Husky Cameron Johnson, ’02, to speak on US-China relations at the Duan & Duan Law Firm.
Indonesia Huskies mix it up!
The Indonesia Huskies are enjoying summer to the fullest. In June they gathered for a fun social mixer and now they’re gearing up for UW Converge Jakarta.
