It’s been another fantastic few months for Husky gatherings around the world. See the highlights below!
Huskies and Wolverines gather in Taiwan
The Taiwan Huskies hosted a joint mixer with alumni from the University of Michigan in February, one of several meet-ups the Taiwan chapter led this spring!
UW Wind Ensemble takes Korea
In March, the Korea Huskies were among the crowds who gathered for two nights of special performances by the UW Wind Ensemble. The concerts were held at Woosong University in Daejeon, Korea.
Indonesia Huskies celebrate culture
In Jakarta, UWAIN (UW Alumni of Indonesia) co-hosted a Halal Bihalal event with several other US universities. Halal Bihalal is a cultural tradition unique to Indonesia, particularly observed by the Muslim community after the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan. It’s a time for social gatherings where people visit family and friends to foster a sense of community, reconciliation and togetherness.
Spreading happiness in Canada
In April, Ray Li (UW’s AVP of International Advancement) hosted the first ever gathering of UW alumni in Toronto. This enthusiastic emerging alumni community is organizing its own summer get-together as a follow-up to the happy hour.
Summertime means barbecue time in Shanghai
The Shanghai alumni chapter held their annual summer barbeque in June.
Shenzhen makes it official
In late June, the long-standing Shenzhen alumni community held its inaugural meeting as an official UW alumni chapter! Over 60 huskies attended the event, and we are very proud to welcome new chapter board members: Peifeng (Ben) Zhong, ’01, (President); Daoming Li, ’13, (Secretary of Events a.k.a. Chief Entertainment Officer); Luhan (Coco) Tang, ’14, (Secretary of Marketing); Zhuohang (Ash) Zhou, ’20, (Secretary of Membership); Junhong (Klaus) Chen, ’18, (Secretary of Mentorship Program); Fei (Ivy) Xie, ’14, (Secretary of Mentorship Program).
London keeps it clean
In July, Huskies in London held their first in-person event in several years, hosting UW chemistry professor David Ginger, who spoke about his work as Chief Scientist at the UW’s Clean Energy Institute.
AI talk brings Singapore together
In July, our Singapore alumni chapter hosted Anind Dey, Dean of UW’s Information School, for an evening of learning and networking. Dean Dey shared his insights on the latest developments in machine learning and artificial intelligence and their collective impact on our future.
