Out and About Around the Husky Globe: Winter 2023
Here’s what the UW’s international alumni and friends have been up to during the last few months.
Japan Husky imparts wisdom to global business students
Japan Husky Shuhei Tajima, ’01, visited students from Foster School’s Certificate of International Studies in Business (CISB) program in October. He helped students grow in their understanding of global business topics and develop their skills for working across cultures and nations.
UW representatives visit alumni in Asia
UW International Advancement’s dynamic duo of Ray Li and Doug Wallack traveled extensively in Asia as 2022 wrapped up. They visited alumni and friends in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Japan. Over many shared meals and stories they learned about how our alumni are making a positive impact in their communities and helped bring Husky Spirit to our many thriving alumni groups around the world.
Alum shares career insights with students
In early November, China Husky Alvin Graylin, ’93, stopped by campus to serve as a guest speaker in ECE 398, a class devoted to looking at professional issues faced by computer science students. He took questions from the class and shared stories of how his career path was shaped.
Hong Kong Huskies mix it up
In November, the Hong Kong Huskies gathered with alumni of seven other universities including Berkeley and Notre Dame for a fun and casual happy hour. With lines out the door, it was a great way to connect with old friends from UW and build new connections with alumni from peer institutions.
Shanghai Huskies give thanks
The Shanghai Huskies joined their own multi-university gathering in November to celebrate Thanksgiving with alumni of other peer institutions.
W flag flies in Munich
On Nov. 13, the NFL played its first-ever regular season game in Germany with the Seattle Seahawks taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Among the fans cheering for Seattle in Munich were plenty of Huskies and Lisa Holm, ’03, even managed to snap this photo with her W flag.
Thailand Huskies go green (and purple)
On December 17, the Thailand Huskies gathered for a tree planting event with Bangkok governor, Chadchart Sittipunt. Working together, they planted 25 Queen’s Flower seedlings, a tree know for it’s vibrant purple blossoms.
Law alumni gather in Japan
In December, UW’s Asian Law Center hosted a reception in Japan. It was wonderful to see such a great turnout from our substantial group of law alumni in Japan.
Huskies Hoof it in Thailand
Bangkok governor, Chadchart Sittipunt and his son Sanpiti “Sandee” Sittipunt, ’22, invited International Advancement’s own Ray Li and Doug Wallack along for one of their live-streamed morning runs in Bangkok. They covered lots of miles and — with more than two hundred thousand views — shared the Husky Spirit with many in Thailand. Watch the full video on Facebook.
