Dear Huskies,
Congratulations on your accomplishments, big or small, in the year of 2024. This year, some of you discovered new academic subjects to explore further. Others found new hobbies that help with work-life balance. Some of you came across inspirational books that challenge your thinking, while others began building a support system. Remember, not all accomplishments come with immediate or tangible rewards. Small things are equally meaningful and can contribute to bigger achievements in the future. We are very proud of how far you have come along on your Husky journey, and we encourage you to also acknowledge and celebrate these moments of hard work and resilience.
Winter break is right around the corner. Take advantage of this time to reflect on your growth in the past year and to recharge through the joy and festivities that Christmas brings. Christmas is a holiday celebrated in various ways around the world, rooted in traditions like decorating the Christmas trees, exchanging gifts, and spending time with friends and families. This is also a wonderful time to embrace communities with small gestures: a personalized card, a hand-made gift, or a homecooked meal can deliver love to those around you.
If you are sticking around during Christmas time, be sure to check out some of the following activities in the area:
- Visit Snowflake Lane in Bellevue: From Nov 29 to Dec 24, experience the wonder of snowfall, toy drummers, and a magical parade of lights and music every night at 7 p.m. This is a free, family friendly event with easy access through public transportation.
- Explore Holiday Lights: Marvel at the whimsical sparkling lights shaped into plants and animals at the Bellevue Botanic Garden (purchase tickets in advance online). You can also explore the botanic garden for free before the light show goes on.
- Ice-Skating in Bellevue: Ice-skate lovers, glide into the holiday spirit at Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink. Tickets start at $15 on weekdays with free skating lessons coming up. Check out more details here.
- Read a good book: Winter is the perfect time for some leisurely reading. If you prefer to stay at home with a good book, check out this New York Times 100 Best Books of the 21 Century list for recommendations.
- Have a Christmas-movie night: Do you have a favorite Christmas movie? Gather some friends, cozy up in blankets, and enjoy a festive movie night with snacks and great company. Recommendations include Home Alone, Elf, Klaus, Love Actually, and many more.
Whether you’re staying in Seattle, traveling, or hosting friends and family, we hope you find moments of joy and relaxation. From all of us, thank you for bringing your unique perspectives and energy to our community this year. We look forward to supporting and celebrating with you in the year to come.
Warmly,
