Student Positions at CIRCLE
CIRCLE Graduate Student Program Coordinator (Graduate Student Only)
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Graduate Programs and Operations, the Graduate Student Program Coordinator will be coordinating the planning and execution of a variety of programs to engage UW graduate students. The programs will range in scale, scope and audience and will take place throughout the academic year to ensure continuous student engagement. In addition, the Graduate Student Program Coordinator will support the assessment and evaluation of each program and provide feedback for future iterations. Lastly, the Graduate Student Program Coordinator will engage with a variety of campus partners during the planning and execution of CIRCLE programs.
Pay Rate: $23 per hour.
Hours: 12-16 hours during fall, winter, spring quarters.
Length of position: 2024-2025 Academic Year (starting in summer 2024).

Graduate Student Communications Coordinator (Graduate Student Only)
(This position has been already filled for 2024-2025. Future position will open around Spring Quarter 2025.) The Graduate Student Communications Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the execution of all CIRCLE communication channels that support the transition, onboarding, and support for all UW undergraduate and graduate international students. This position will play a key role in making sure entering international students are informed of the necessary steps they need to take as they prepare to arrive in the United States both in regard to immigration and life at the university. This role will also play a key role in marketing CIRCLE and CIRCLE programs to the UW community. Finally, this position will provide general support to CIRCLE programs as necessary.
This position will require an individual who is knowledgeable of the different communication platforms available at the University of Washington and web design. This position requires knowledge of social media platforms and how they are used across countries and by different student audiences and for marketing purposes. Additionally, this position requires an understanding of, and sensitivity to, diverse cultural norms, expectations, and traditions of foreign countries and their interplay with the American higher education system. Familiarity with UW internal systems, support structures, and departments would be highly beneficial.
The successful candidate will share CIRCLE’s values, demonstrate cultural understanding and passion for serving a diverse student population, and will display flexibility due to the impact of the pandemic on university operations. The Graduate Student Communications Coordinator will report to the CIRCLE Assistant Director of Graduate Programs and Operations.

CIRCLE of Friends (CoF)
The CoF Peer Advisors will lead a group of student volunteers (CIRCLE Ambassadors or CAs) to offer a variety of cultural activities and workshops to engage and support international students each quarter, and more. Position responsibilities include:

- PAs will plan, execute, promote and reflect on each week’s activity based on students’ needs.
- PAs will help select and train a group of volunteers to implement weekly activities. An important part of the job is to create a strong bond within the team through weekly team meetings, hangouts, etc.
- PAs will attend all CoF large team trainings and meetings
- PAs will coordinate with CIRCLE Marketing and Communications Coordinator and others to promote CoF and its weekly events, via CIRCLE Newsletter and other social media platforms
- PAs will be responsible for budgeting and keeping track of team expenses on activities
- PA will also support other CIRCLE programs and responsibilities as needed.
- PAs will offer 30-minute 1:1 advising appointments available for international undergraduates to book. Advising topics can vary from housing, academics, to community building.
Pay Rate: $20.57 per hour

CIRCLE Student Advisory Board (SAB) Chair and Select Members
Position Description
The Center for International Relations & Cultural Leadership Exchange, Student Advisory Board (CIRCLE SAB) shall serve as the official advisory body regarding international student experiences at the University of Washington’s Seattle Campus. The principles of the Board center around the engagement and advocacy for international student interests at the University of Washington by: 1) Consulting and engaging with CIRCLE staff to provide student perspectives and input on programs and initiatives related to international students on Seattle campus; 2) Rendering and formalizing international student opinions on topics of interest to the international student body to impact University Administration, influencing policy and direction of campus affairs; 3) Providing and advocating for a space and environment for international students to partake in the administrative and legislative processes of the University, and increase international student representation at critical campus affairs discussions. 4) Taking initiatives to enhance international student experiences and to promote student success.
The SAB Chair serves as the Chair of the CIRCLE SAB, and shall be responsible for the administrative and regular operations of the CIRCLE SAB.

CIRCLE Communications Student Assistant
The CIRCLE Communications Student Assistant will be responsible for supporting both CIRCLE events and RCG group posting. Please read the detailed responsibilities below.
Responsibilities:
Social Media Management:
- Manage CIRCLE’s Instagram account with the support of the Strategic Communications Coordinator.
- Respond to questions received on Instagram from students.
- Respond to other UW units’ Instagram accounts to share relevant information to our followers.
- Assist in exploring ways in which CIRCLE could expand its social media presence.
Graphic Design:
- Assist with the design of social media posts.
- Design flyers for CIRCLE events for digital use.
RCG Group Posting:
- Create bi-lingual (preferably English & Mandarin) announcements twice a week and post them in RCG groups across Kakao, Line, WhatsApp, Instagram, and WeChat. Announcements cover a wide range of topics, including CIRCLE large events, CIRCLE of Friends events, ISS webinars, reminders of important dates and resources, etc.
- Monitor all RCG group chats, answer students’ questions, and offer advice with the support from CIRCLE Assistant Director
- Offer 1:1 Zoom advising on campus resources and other areas if needed.
- Collect student feedback to understand their needs and preferences, in order to tailor advising for optimized outreach efforts.
Pay Rate: $18.69 per hour

Unite UW

Program Assistants (Undergraduate or Graduate Students)
Under the supervision of the CIRCLE Assistant Director of Graduate Programs and Operations, the Program Assistant will serve a key role in supporting the programs and office operations for CIRCLE. Primary responsibilities include providing front desk coverage (greeting guests, answering phone calls and emails). Provide support for general office administration such as scanning documents, photocopying, assembling packets, data entry, and other general office duties. In addition to front desk responsibilities, the Program Assistant will ensure CIRCLE is ready for daily office functions and the student lounge and kitchen are tidy and organized. Volunteer positions
As a CIRCLE Ambassador, you will be able to meet fellow Huskies from around the world. This is a great opportunity to develop your cross-cultural communication skills and to engage in cross-cultural dialogue in a safe space and to develop professional and transferable skills.
Unite UW is an on-campus cultural and personal exchange program within the Division of Student Life. The program connects domestic and international students, to enrich cultural understandings, foster lasting personal connections, and create a community of belonging. This 7-week intensive program pairs students in a series of weekly cultural workshops and bonding activities. Three sections of the program are offered concurrently every quarter in the academic year, with no credit bearing.
Unite UW Program Leaders (PLs) collaborate with the International Student Engagement Specialist and the Unite UW team to develop and facilitate activities for one of three independent sections. As student leaders, as well as student peers, PLs will gain valuable experience for the future while helping students connect to the UW community and to each other.
Unite UW will select 15 facilitators to lead a small group of six participants each. We are looking for someone who is compassionate, responsible, open-minded, outgoing, and committed to the mission of Unite UW. Time commitment include: planned program activities, training, plus self-initiated group meet-ups outside of program. Facilitators receive a small stipend upon satisfactory evaluation results with demonstrated time commitment.
IWP Volunteers support CIRCLE with welcoming newly arrived international students and ongoing programs. All UW students (both domestic and international students) are welcome to participate!
