MLK Week

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy of strength, resilience and compassion are a worldwide touchstone of civic responsibility and action. There are lots of ways to honor his memory and celebrate the contributions of others who stand for justice by participating in University of Washington’s MLK Week.

For 90 days over winter quarter, the UW hosted Tent City 3, an organized tent city that offers safe, secure housing to people in need. Read story

Tent City

Brought on by the effort of the Tent City Collective (TCC)— a group of UW students, alumni, the UW has hosted Tent City at the UW Seattle campus first in 2017 and again for winter quarter of 2021.

Homelessness is a crisis in Washington and across the U.S. Last year, an annual count revealed that in King County alone, 11,200 people reported being homeless at the time of the survey. Welcoming back Tent City 3 aligns with UW’s public mission and its commitment to helping solve the challenges of our city, state and world.

The Combined Fund Drive (CFD) is the state’s workplace giving campaign providing faculty, staff and retirees the opportunity to give to their favorite charities.
