Grab the whole family and head for Polar Science Weekend, March 1 to 4, at Pacific Science Center. Sponsored by UW Applied Physics Laboratory and the science center, this seventh annual event offers engaging hands-on activities designed by UW scientists to illustrate their research (see video). For adults, a “Portal to Current Research” will feature investigations on the Artic ice melt by Applied Physics Laboratory researchers.

New research on children’s environmental health is the subject of a February 28 seminar at South Campus Center sponsored by the UW Northwest Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit and the Center for Child Environmental Risk Research. News from the Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies shows that Washington’s year-end housing market reflects high seasonally-adjusted sales but declining median home prices. Based in the College of Built Environments, the Runstad Center is a service organization, operating a leading real estate program that helps advance best practices in the industry.
Celebrate Black History Month
February is the perfect month to visit the Northwest African American Museum (NAAM) in the Central District. Brian J. Carter, a graduate of the UW’s Museology Program, is its education director and five other staff members hail from the UW College of Arts and Sciences. NAAM is featured in the Central Seattle web portal of the new UW in Your Community website spotlighting neighborhoods throughout Seattle.
