UW English professor hits big screen
Ready to talk about something besides snow? “Americanese”, the film version of UW English Professor Shawn Wong’s novel “American Knees”, will be shown at the SIFF Cinema Uptown in lower Queen Anne at 7 pm Tuesday, January 24. Wong and director Eric Byler will speak at the screening. (University of Washington Press has rereleased the novel.)

The UW Department of Communication is joining with the Seattle Times to present Election Eye 2012, an on-the-ground blog that will cover part of the 2012 primary campaign “as seen through the eyes of UW students and faculty.”

New art & literary journal debuts
Stratus, showcasing the work of graduates from UW Professional and Continuing Education, will begin accepting submissions for its second issue in May 2012, with publication expected in July. The new 100-page journal includes novel excerpts, short stories, children’s literature, narrative nonfiction and memoir, as well as drawings, paintings and photographs.
