Univ. of Washington ending COVID-19 vaccination requirement for most students (Message to admitted students)

This message is being sent to students who have been admitted to a University of Washington campus for the summer or autumn 2023 quarters.

Dear New Husky,

We are excited to welcome you to the University of Washington! As you prepare to join our community, we wanted to let you know that we are changing our COVID-19 vaccination policy. Starting with the summer quarter 2023, most students will no longer need to submit proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or receive an approved exemption.

Staying up to date on COVID-19 vaccination remains strongly encouraged and is an important public health measure to reduce the risk of disease transmission and severe illness. Please also follow the University’s COVID-19 Public Health Flowchart if you develop symptoms, test positive or have an exposure to COVID-19.

All students continue to be required to meet the Tri-Campus Immunity Requirement, which includes vaccinations against measles, mumps and meningitis.

Health sciences students participating in the Health Sciences Immunization Program are not affected by this policy change and will continue to follow all vaccination requirements communicated by HSIP program staff.

Thanks to widespread community immunity, the public health situation has significantly improved, making this change in our vaccination policy possible. The University will continue to monitor the current and expected health conditions and adjust our policies accordingly. You can learn more at uw.edu/coronavirus.

Registration holds related to the COVID-19 vaccination requirement will be lifted by May 17.
