As platinum sponsors of the conference, the University of Washington (UW) and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) have been given the opportunity by SACNAS to host a tour. In a typical year, about 500 students participate in tours.
This year, the tours will be on Thursday, October 11th from 8:00am – 1:30pm. FHCRC and the UW are planning three separate and distinct tours:
- UW only: This is the best choice for 1) life sciences students who want a four hour in-depth experience with the ability to participate in specialized lab tours matched to registrant’s interests; and 2) engineering, physical sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, computer science (as the UW campus is where these degree programs are located). The UW tour will include an opening welcome to be followed by lab tours, group presentations, demonstrations, meetings with students/faculty, or whatever best fits the needs of the host program/department. The tour will close with a luncheon for the students and we would welcome Deans, Chairs and faculty participation as speakers, or to sit with a group of students at a lunch table. If your program is interested in hosting a tour, please contact either Lisa Peterson (lisapete@u.washington.edu) or Rory Murphy (rmurphy@u.washington.edu).
- Combined UW and Hutch: students would spend half of the time at UW, then the other half at FHCRC. These students are most likely to be life science research students.
- Hutch only
