Staff Diversity Hiring Toolkit
Staff Diversity Hiring Workshops
Your commitment to recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce at the University of Washington is significant to our institution’s progress. The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity (OMA&D) views diversity broadly, including, but not limited to, considerations of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, ability and gender. Our goal is to support the UW’s commitment to inclusive excellence. This toolkit is intended to be one of many resources for you to consult as you seek to increase your outreach efforts and build an inclusive applicant pool. We encourage you to consult with your supervisor and/or your unit’s HR administrator as you plan the hiring process.
Why Diversity Matters
Diversity is one of the six values at the University of Washington that guides institutional goals for students, staff, and faculty. Institutions of higher education across the country are shifting their focus and inviting conversations around cultural differences and the subsequent opportunities that emerge. It is the mission of the University of Washington to break down barriers and create a path for those who have been systematically excluded throughout history. Together we will strive to achieve cultural responsiveness and engage with the community about issues regarding accessibility to higher education.
