Step 2: Customize your blogroll
There are a ton of ways you can customize a blogroll to fit your needs.
Within each shortcode there are attributes associated with that blogroll. It is within these attributes that you can adjust and customize the content you wish to present on it. Below is a list of all the attributes along with what/how you can change for each attribute.
*Remember, when changing an attribute to keep the quotation marks. For instance, if you are wanting to change the number of blogs that are showing to 4, make sure the code appears as follows: number=”4″
Attributes:
- excerpt: Choose whether to show the manual excerpt in the blogroll. Options are show and hide. *If you have excerpt=”show” and trim=”true” and you have already manually entered an excerpt, only the excerpt will show, not the trim.
- trim: This will trim down the blog that you are displaying in the blogroll to a reduced word count. If this is not on then the entire blog will show. Options are true and false.
- image: Choose whether to show the featured image thumbnail. Options are show and hide.
- author: Choose whether to show the the author of whatever you are displaying in the blogroll. Options are show and hide.
- date: Choose whether to show the publish date. Options are show and hide.
- titletag: This is how you would adjust the html element for the post titles. (Default is h2)
- post_type: This is how you specify the post type the blogroll will look for to display. Options include but are not limited to post and uw_stories.
- number: This tells the blogroll how many items to display at any one time. For best practices, try not to go over 5.
- mini: This is how to turn on and off the mini blogroll. Options are true and false with it defaulting as false.
- category: The WordPress category ID to limit results from. You can select multiple categories. Default is none.
- category_name: The WordPress category name to limit the results from. You can select multiple. Default is none.
- readmore: Choose whether to show the “Read More” link or not. Options are on and off.
