Addressing Disability by Partnering with AccessComputing

AccessComputing works to increase the participation of people with disabilities in computing by

1. helping students with disabilities successfully pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in computing fields
2. increasing the capacity of postsecondary institutions and other organizations to fully include students with disabilities in computing courses and programs.

To broaden participation in computing fields, it is important to consider all underrepresented groups, including people with disabilities. AccessComputing is happy to partner with you or help you identify other resources or partners.

• Becoming an AccessComputing partner.
  Engage in a nationwide community that works to increase the participation of people with disabilities in computing careers and employment. Partners take steps to make their home organizations and institutions more welcoming and accessible to individuals with disabilities.

• Perform an accessibility audit of your website.​
  AccessComputing accessibility experts can perform an accessibility audit of your website and provide support as you take steps to make it more accessible.

• Offer training related to accessibility, disability, and universal design at your institution.
  Partner with us to develop trainings related to accessibility, disability, and universal design to build capacity and community at your institution.

• Develop an outreach activity for students with disabilities.​
  AccessComputing can provide feedback and advice on camps, workshops, and classes that are accessible to students with disabilities.

• Host a student with a disability in an REU.
  Work together with AccessComputing to recruit a student with a disability to participate in an REU in your lab. We’ll provide support throughout the REU to you and the student.
