Sixteen Phase I Scholars attended their first DO-IT Summer Study session at the University of Washington in July 2011. They learned about college life and prepared for college and careers. Throughout the year, they communicate with each other, DO-IT participants, and DO-IT Mentors. They use the Internet to support their academic studies, and they complete projects in exciting fields that include science, engineering, mathematics, technology, and business. After completing Summer Study 2012, these participants graduated to Phase II.

Hello, I'm Diego, and I graduated from Lynnwood High School this year (finally!). I am planning on attending Edmonds Community College in the fall to earn an associate's degree in science. I play the violin and I've also recently started playing the trumpet. I was a member of the Lynnwood High School varsity football team. I was selected Student of the Month for November 2011 and was a member of the National Honor Society. I am a nice and respectful person and I am also a jokester. I have a learning disability.

I am a member of the National Honor Society. Three years ago I had a singing part in the school play Guys and Dolls, and I am continuing my interest by taking a drama class this year. This year I will be joining the staff of my school's newspaper. As a Phase II Scholar, I look forward to helping the Phase I Scholars out, while still learning necessary skills for college. I have Asperger's syndrome, but I do not let it define who I am.
