'95 Ambassadors

The following Ambassadors began participating in DO-IT as Scholars in 1995. They continue to pursue college and career goals and encourage younger DO-IT Scholars and Ambassadors.

Jesse, '95 Scholar

Blind
Earned a bachelor's degree in information technology from University of Minnesota, Crookston. Works at the Center for Visually Impaired in Florida on accessible technology and a new computer lab. Getting certified in vision rehabilitation therapy from the National Lighthouse program and studying for a master's degree in instructional design and technology.

Helped build Toyota pickups.

Has worked in a technical support role.

Muscular dystrophy
Had a strong desire to go to college and open his own computer drafting business when he died of complications from pneumonia in 1996.

Earned a bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation from Southern Illinois University. Pursuing a master's degree in social work at Grand Valley State in Grand Rapids, MI. Works as a graduate assistant for the School of Social Work and in program development at a child abuse prevention agency.

Completed college coursework and works in the medical field.

Quadriplegia
Earned a bachelor's degree in social services at Central Washington University and a web design certificate from the Art Institute online. Works as webmaster for the Center for Independence. Active member in disability rights groups, including the Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council.

Worked at Washington Energy. Attended college classes.

Has a successful career as door maker.

Hearing impairment
Earned a bachelor's degree in biology and speech and hearing sciences from Whitman College. Earned a doctorate in audiology from the University of Washington. Works as a pediatric audiologist at Children's Hospital in Seattle.

Attended the University of Washington with an interest in technical communication.

Mobility impairment
Earned a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and a master's degree from the University of San Diego. Worked for the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, and is currently serving as Ms. Wheelchair Washington 2009.
