What readjustment services are available for veterans?

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs has established more than 300 community-based Vet Centers in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Vet Centers provide readjustment counseling and outreach services to veterans who have served in any combat zone.

Readjustment counseling involves a wide range of services designed to assist the veteran in making a satisfying transition from military to civilian life. Services offered include individual counseling, group counseling, marital and family counseling, bereavement counseling, medical referrals, assistance in applying for VA benefits, employment counseling, guidance and referral, alcohol and drug assessments, information and referral to community resources, military sexual trauma counseling and referral, and outreach and community education. Services are also available for veterans' family members in military related issues.

The Vet Centers are staffed by small multi-disciplinary teams and many of the staff members are combat veterans themselves. Vet Center services are provided at no cost to the veteran or their family members. For more information contact Vet Center staff.
