The UW and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have joined together to create a new venture. The Northwest Institute for Advanced Computing will mine large amounts of data to take on a wide range of global problems. From climate change to contagious diseases to traffic jams, the researchers will use data from many different sources to develop technology, like developing smart grid electrical technology and determining the causes of diseases.
