Explore how machine learning automates the transcription of classical Japanese manuscripts, and how statistical analysis of jibo (polygraphic hiragana characters) can help identify scribes and enhance historical research.

EVENT | CHINESE MEMORY ARCHIVE

Join us to hear how stories are being saved and why they matter in a presentation about the “Chinese Memory Archive” project founded by Mr. T.A. Frank.

The project collects longform, firsthand accounts from those who lived through some of the most turbulent decades in China’s history.

Mr. Frank is a Seattle-based writer and editor who has written for the New York Times, Vanity Fair and the Washington Post, among others. A 2000 graduate of Columbia University where he studied Chinese history, he’s lived and worked in China.

The Lecture will be conducted in English. It is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. To confirm your attendance, please RSVP to xuandai@uw.edu.
