Visit the Book Arts Collection
To provide student and staff support for the Book Arts Curator. Funds can be used for supplies, acquisitions and training at the discretion of the Book Arts Curator as needed.
Gifts invested for long-term support to be used at the discretion of the Dean of the Libraries to benefit the Book Arts Collection. The purpose of the endowment is to supplement the Libraries’ collections related to book arts and all elements of the physical book including but not limited to medieval manuscripts, early printed books, the history of printing and publishing, and the history of illustration, artists’ books and Book Arts.
This fund was established with a seed grant by the Friends of the University of Washington Libraries and was completed by various donors, book art lovers and book artists.
To provide curatorial and program support of Book Arts and Rare Books at UW Libraries.
To support and enhance the acquisition and preservation of unique, handmade books created by artists held by the University Libraries Manuscripts, Special Collections, University Archives division.
Gifts invested to provide flexible and comprehensive support for the Book Arts Collection, including but not limited to acquisition, preservation, staff support and event funding, with special consideration given to projects related to environmental issues.
This fund was created by Dr. Lynne Thayer Smith (UW PhD 1985, MPH 2002) in memory of Mr. Wicker, a Major Mitchell cockatoo and beloved companion of Dr. Smith’s great, great uncle – John Lawrence Smith (1867-1941). In addition to his medical practice, John and his wife Esther traveled the world, cultivated a love of nature, and collected books. This endowed fund honors his passion for knowledge, his love of nature and enjoyment of books.
