Get ready, Huskies—Hazing Prevention Week is coming to UW Seattle from October 7-11! 🎉 Join us for a week full of exciting events where you can learn how to recognize hazing behaviors, find out how to report them to Community Standards & Student Conduct (CSSC), and connect with the CSSC team. Plus, there are awesome giveaways up for grabs! Let’s work together to keep our campus safe and inclusive! 🐾

Webinar for Parents & Families – 5 pm PST: We welcome parents and families to a webinar to learn more about hazing behavior and UW’s prevention efforts. At the end of the webinar, there will be time to ask the Community Standards & Student Conduct staff questions. Registration is required, so please click here to register.

General Hazing Prevention Program—11:30 am in HRC 135: We welcome students, faculty, and staff to join us for a brief overview of hazing, the role Sam’s Law plays at the university, and how to report a hazing concern. You will partake in an activity to understand the role hazing can play in an organization. Join us for the interactive program and receive some swag! 

Webinar for FSL & RSO Advisors – 6 pm PST: We welcome advisors of our fraternities, sororities, and registered student organizations to join us to learn more about hazing behavior and UW’s hazing prevention efforts. At the end of the webinar, there will be time to ask the Community Standards & Student Conduct staff questions. Registration is required, so please click here to register.

Tabling – 11 am – 2 pm PST at The Hub Lawn: Stop by our table to learn about our hazing prevention efforts, receive freebies, and hang out with special guests!

“Breathe, Nolan, Breathe” Documentary Showing – 7 pm PST in PCAR 192: Nolan Burch, a college freshman pledging a fraternity, tragically lost his life due to a hazing incident at West Virginia University in November 2014. Learn more about Nolan’s death and its impact on the community. Following the documentary, engage in a conversation about hazing behavior. To learn more about Nolan Burch, click here.

UW Bothell – October 15, 2024

Mark your calendars, Huskies—Hazing Prevention Day is happening at UW Bothell on October 15th! 🎉 Join us for a fun-filled day of events where you can learn to spot hazing behaviors, discover how to report them to Student Conduct, and connect with the Student Engagement & Activities Team and other campus staff. And don’t forget about the fantastic giveaways waiting for you! Let’s come together to create a safe and inclusive campus for all! 🐾

Hazing Film and Discussion with Byron Hurt

In partnership with Clamor Literary and Arts Journal, we will show the film Hazing. In the film, Byron talks to family members of deceased young people and survivors to reveal the underbelly of groups that haze. HAZING will take a fascinating look at identity, belonging, groupthink, control, power and dominance, bystander intervention, race and gender, and violence. Afterward, there will be a virtual Q&A with Byron Hurt! More information to come!
