Welcome to Harborview Medical Center’s Thoracic Surgery Rotation
UW Medicine Harborview Medical Center’s Thoracic Surgery experience is primarily a house officer run service. The house officers are responsible for the inpatient service with direct and indirect supervision by the attending thoracic surgeon(s). Thoracic surgical patients are integrated into the Team 2 Trauma Service and the Chief Resident on Team 2 provides back up housestaff coverage as needed.
The fourth-year (PGY-4) general surgery residents provide the main senior resident coverage on a rotating basis and are expected to supervise and support the 1st year surgical intern in performing their clinical duties for the patients followed by Thoracic Surgery (either as primary patients or consults).
Evaluation of the house officers for this rotation is based on performance and execution of the responsibilities expected on service for their level of residency training.
The domains for evaluation are based on the Milestone evaluations of HMC Thoracic Surgical Rotation.
