North Tennis Court #12 is first come first serve pickle ball. Pickle ball is also available in the IMA Gym B on Thursdays from 2-5pm. Please email cyarb@uw.edu with any questions.

FAQs

What kind of shoes should I wear?

Shoes that are non-marking are required to use the court. Shoes that mark or damage the floor surface or court floors, such as turf shoes, bicycle cleats, black waffle type running shoes are strictly prohibited. The floors, when marked, are costly and difficult to repair. Persons who mark and/or damage the court surfaces will be charged the cost of maintenance and repair. You may wish to remind others about this problem to help protect YOUR courts. For further assistance, contact the supervisor on duty at the Member Services Desk.

Court Courtesy

All participants must abide by court rules and regulations, and use common sense and courtesy in their use of the courts. Any reservation, court or field usage problem should be directed to the supervisor on duty at the Member Services Desk.

General Court Policies: Handball, Racquetball, Squash, and Wallyball

  • Participants are encouraged to use protective eyewear.
  • Racquetball/handball courts #2, 3, 9 and #10 may be used for either racquetball or handball. *All other courts are closed indefinitely
  • Racquetball/handball court #10 has an ADA accessible door.
  • Wallyball may be played on Racquetball/handball court #9.
  • Squash courts #2 & 3 may be used for North American Squash (Hardball).
  • International Squash courts #IS1 – IS4 may be used for International Squash (Softball).
  • Knock on the court door before entering for safety.
  • Courts may only be used for their designated purpose.
  • Participants are encouraged to play doubles when courts are crowded.
  • Court time is limited to one hour when others are waiting to play.
  • Eligible members may play with a guest, who, by definition, is a person 16 years of age or older and has paid the guest fee for use of IMA facilities.
  • Photography/Video: To protect the privacy of our patrons, taking pictures or video on or in UW Recreation facilities (both indoor and outdoor) is strictly prohibited.  Requests to video or take pictures on or in UW Recreation facilities (both indoor and outdoor) may be permitted after consultation and approval from UW Recreation staff and the Office of University Marketing & Communications.

General Court Policies: Tennis Courts

  • There are 11 tennis courts available for use at the IMA. Courts #1-7 are located on the south side of the IMA and are night-lighted. Court #7 is a singles court only. Courts #8-11 are located on the north side of the IMA.
  • IMA court #12 is used for pickleball and #13 is currently closed due to maintenance issues.
  • Courts are reserved for use by University of Washington students, UW employees with IMA membership and authorized guests ONLY.  Identification required upon request.
  • All group use must be scheduled and approved by UW Recreation.  Learn more at recreation.uw.edu or call 206-543-4590.
  • Contact the IMA Member Services Desk for lights to be turned on.  Lights will turn off 30 minutes before the IMA Building closes.
  • Rules of tennis court etiquette must be observed by all participants (e.g. closing gates, entering the court between points, etc.)
  • Courts may only be used for their designated purpose. Any activity that may damage the surface is prohibited.
  • Participants are encouraged to play doubles when courts are crowded.
  • Court time is limited to one hour and thirty minutes when others are waiting to play.
  • Use policies will remain in effect during any unreserved hours. If the tennis courts are locked, they are closed and anyone climbing the fence to gain access is subject to trespass laws.
  • Eligible members may play with a guest, who, by definition, is a person 16 years of age or older and has paid the guest fee for use of IMA facilities.
  • Photography/Video: To protect the privacy of our patrons, taking pictures or video on or in UW Recreation facilities (both indoor and outdoor) is strictly prohibited.  Requests to video or take pictures on or in UW Recreation facilities (both indoor and outdoor) may be permitted after consultation and approval from UW Recreation staff and the Office of University Marketing & Communications.
  • COURT RULES:

Group use: Court, Gym, Field & Studio Reservations (RSO’s, UW Departments & non-UW)

Sports Fields (grass & synthetic turf) & Courts

During the academic year, outdoor sports fields and courts may be reserved by University Departments and Registered Student Organizations only on a space-available basis when such use does not conflict with UW Recreation programming, other scheduled activities or maintenance.

During the summer, outdoor sports fields and courts may be reserved by University Departments, Registered Student Organizations and non-UW groups on a space-available basis when such use does not conflict with UW Recreation programming, other scheduled activities or maintenance.

  1. Grass fields and courts are not equipped with night lights, thus reservation times are limited to daylight hours.
  2. Fields and courts are not available for use by non-university participants unless approved by UW Recreation. Fields and courts may not be used for organized local league play or practice.  Identification will be required to participate.
  3. Fields and courts must not be altered and goals, nets, or backstops moved without prior consent from UW Recreation.
  4. Fields are lined periodically and will not be lined for a specific, reserved use.
  5. Fields and courts may only be used for activities authorized by UW Recreation.
  6. Policies will remain in effect during any unreserved hours. If the fields are locked, they are closed and anyone climbing the fence to gain access is subject to trespass laws.
  7. The supervisor on duty in the IMA facility will take appropriate action to correct any field and court use problems.
  8. Photography/Video: To protect the privacy of our patrons, taking pictures or video on or in UW Recreation facilities (both indoor and outdoor) is strictly prohibited.  Requests to video or take pictures on or in UW Recreation facilities (both indoor and outdoor) may be permitted after consultation and approval from UW Recreation staff and the Office of University Marketing & Communications.

Registered Student Organizations (RSO’s)

Fill out the Facility Use Request Form.  Turn completed form into the IMA Member Services desk or scan and email to recinfo@uw.edu.

UW Department Info

  • Fill out the Facility Reservation Application completely and submit via email to cyarb@uw.edu or drop the form off at the Member Services Desk located at the IMA.
  • An acknowledgement of the request will be emailed within 3 business days, to include any follow-up questions or details and the estimated cost of the rental.
  • Once the rental request has been approved your group will receive an email with the UW Recreation Use Agreement attached. The UW Recreation Use Agreement must be signed by your group and returned.
  • Your rental request will not be confirmed until after your group has signed and returned the UW Recreation Use Agreement.
  • After your rental is completed your group will be invoiced (UW Departments that wish to use a worktags (Cost Center, Program, Activity Code, Resource etc.) should provide that information before invoicing). Invoice payments are due no less than 30 days from the invoice date.

Non-UW Group Info

  • Fill out the Facility Reservation Application completely and submit via email to Julie Gillespie or drop the form off at the Member Services Desk located at the IMA.
  • An acknowledgement of the request will be emailed within 7 business days, to include any follow-up questions or details and the estimated cost of the rental.
  • Pursue Use of University Facilities (UUF) approval by submitting the UUF Request Form. Your request must be approved to rent facility space on campus.
  • Use the following information to complete the UUF Request Form: Julie Gillespie (julies14@uw.edu) or Chad Yarbrough (cyarb@uw.edu) as the UW Sponsor/Authorized Representative and UW Recreation as the Department/Approving Event. ICA can use an Authorized Representative within their department as the UW sponsor and UW Recreation as the Department/Approving Event.
  • Provide proof of commercial general liability insurance.
    • Events produced by non-University organizations may present a risk of injury to participants or third parties. In such cases, proof of appropriate liability insurance coverage is required prior to approval of the requested use (WAC 478-136-060).
      • Provide limits of not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence;
      • List the Board of Regents of the University of Washington as an “Additional Insured for losses arising from the operations of the Named Insured”;
      • Provide for 45 days’ notice of cancellation; and
      • Be on a form and from a carrier acceptable to the Office of Risk Management.
    • In addition, if in the requested use includes participation in athletic events, the policy must include athletic participation. The certificate or attached endorsement must indicate this coverage with limits of not less than $1,000,000 per occurrence.

  • Once the rental request has been approved your group will receive an email with the UW Recreation Use Agreement and UW Recreation Waiver Form attached. The UW Recreation Use Agreement must be signed by your group and returned.
  • Your rental request will not be confirmed until after your group has signed and returned the UW Recreation Use Agreement.
  • The UW Recreation Waiver Form or Parental Consent Form must be completed by each participant and turned in prior to your rental, based on the participant list your group provides.
  • Your group will be invoiced prior to your rental. Non-UW Groups must pay estimated invoice amount before the start of the rental. If there is a difference between the estimate and final invoice amount, those fees will be due (or will be refunded) within 30 days of the final invoice date.

Parking

  • Parking permits are required Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until noon. Please note that Event parking may affect cost, hours of operation and availability. For more information, please visit https://transportation.uw.edu/park/visitor.
