American Red Cross Safety Courses

American Red Cross Licensed Training Provider

UW Recreation is a Licensed Training Provider for American Red Cross classes. Classes are open to the public and taught by certified Lifeguard Instructors. Anyone interested in being more prepared for emergencies, learning how to provide care, or who spends a lot of time around water should consider getting certified! All classes happen at the IMA.

 

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

Learn how to administer CPR, First Aid, and use AEDs! This class covers topics most applicable to professionals with a duty to respond to emergencies while on the job. All classes are blended learning, meaning some learning will happen asynchronously and requires access to the internet. Completion of this course will certify you with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with First Aid, which lasts two years.

Program & Course Information

CPR classes in Spring Quarter:

  • Sunday, April 6th, 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Sunday, April 27th, 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Saturday, May 3rd, 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Sunday, May 11th, 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM

All classes are blended learning; you will be sent an email at least one week prior to the in-person session with instructions on how to complete the e-learning course. The online course must be completed before the in-person session, and takes 2-3 hours to complete.

 

Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water)

Get certified in preventing and responding to water emergencies, and life-saving skills. Useful for anyone interested in becoming a lifeguard and those who spend lots of time around water.
Upon completion of the skill and written evaluations, participants will receive the Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Certification, which lasts two years.

Class meeting dates in Spring Quarter:

  • Saturday, May 10th, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Saturday, May 17th, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Sunday, May 18th, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

This class is blended learning, and combines asynchronous information with in-person skill practice. Participants must attend all sessions. Participants must be at least 16 years old and pass a pre-requisite swimming test to continue in the class.

Cost:

  • $281 for students
  • $319 for members
  • $358 for non-members

 

Lifeguard Recertification

This Recertification course is for anyone currently certified in Lifeguarding (including deep water) that is expiring soon or will have expired within 30 days of the last class date. Upon completion of the skill and written evaluations, participants be certified in Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid, which lasts two years.
