Rec Membership
The Intramural Activities (IMA) Building is UW’s premier fitness center nestled on the bank of Lake Washington. The IMA includes access to gyms, assorted courts, indoor track, climbing center, cardio and weight rooms and a variety of studio spaces. Rec memberships to the IMA are available on a quarter or annual basis for University of Washington students, UW employees, UW retirees, Plus Ones, UWAA Members (Alumni eligibility is limited – Lifetime & Presidents Circle donors, UWAA determines Rec membership eligibility) and Affiliates (eligible affiliates only, including Fred Hutch & Seattle Children’s employees – Quarterly only). Membership restrictions apply.

Seattle, Bothell, or Tacoma Students
UW SEATTLE STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
UW Seattle Rec Membership: Included in Tuition (Services & Activities Fee) during active enrollment.
UW BOTHELL / TACOMA STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
Currently enrolled UW Bothell / UW Tacoma Students may purchase Rec Membership each quarter.
NON-FEE PAYING UW STUDENT
Non-matriculated UW Seattle, UW Bothell and UW Tacoma students who do not pay the S&A fee are still eligible to purchase a quarterly rec membership. This includes, but is not limited to those enrolled in IELP, VISIT/VISER, Global Business Certificate, BIGE, Rits BES, Communication for Medicine, STEP, PCE, etc.

Membership Information & Eligibility
Student
UW Seattle Students
Eligibility: All registered, matriculated, UW Seattle students who pay the Services and Activities Fees may use the IMA by presenting their current Husky ID Card*.
*Husky ID Cards are non-transferable and should never be used by anyone else to gain access to the IMA. Misused Husky ID Cards will be impounded.
UW Tacoma & UW Bothell Students
Eligibility: Current UW Tacoma and UW Bothell students may purchase a Rec membership. When purchasing membership, bring your UW Husky ID Card to the IMA Member Services Desk.
Student Summer Memberships (UW Seattle, UWB, UWT)
Students enrolled in Spring or Autumn 2025 classes at UW Seattle, UW Bothell or UW Tacoma, but not attending classes during Summer term may purchase an optional Summer Rec membership for $92.00. If you are currently enrolled for spring as a UW Seattle student or have a Bothell/Tacoma rec membership, you may purchase a summer membership beginning May 27, 2025 either online or at the IMA front desk. If you do not currently have an active rec membership, summer memberships can be purchased at the IMA front desk during business hours beginning June 9. New/transfer students may become members with their Advanced Registration Certificate from the National Student Clearinghouse (https://sdb.admin.uw.edu/sisStudents/uwnetid/nsc/). Summer quarter membership is valid for use from the date of purchase through Sunday, September 14, 2025.
*UW Bothell/UW Tacoma students do not need to have purchased an IMA membership in Spring.
Student Plus One
Eligibility:
Students and on-leave graduates with a valid Rec Membership can add a Plus One Quarterly Membership to their account. A Plus One membership allows independent access to the IMA during all hours of operation. An IMA member can have TWO Plus One members on their account at one time. The Primary member (UW Student) AND Plus One Member must be present to purchase the Plus One Membership. The Primary member (UW Student) must be present to renew the Plus One membership (Plus One Member does NOT need to be present) – the Plus One Member CANNOT renew their own membership. Plus One Members must be 16 years of age or older.
Plus One Quarterly Rec Membership: $102.00 + Tax

All Student Plus One memberships must be purchased at the IMA Member Services Desk. When purchasing a membership, please bring the following:

Guests are not eligible to participate in classes, Rec Club activities, Intramurals, or other paid program areas.
Guests of current UW students and active Rec membership holders are able to purchase a Guest Pass ($7.50), valid only for the day, to climb at Crags Climbing Center. The guest and their sponsor must be present at the time of purchase, however the sponsor does not need to remain at Crags. Be advised that sponsors are responsible for the actions of their guests while climbing at Crags.

Eligibility: Current UW faculty and staff who are active in Workday and University of Washington retirees with a Retiree Husky Card are eligible to purchase a Rec membership. Bring your UW Employee or Retiree ID Card to the IMA Member Services Desk.
UW Employee or UW Retiree Plus One
Eligibility:
Faculty, Staff or UW Retiree’s with a current Rec Membership can add a Plus One Quarterly or Annual Membership to their account. A Plus One membership allows independent access to the IMA during all hours of operation. A Rec member can have TWO Plus One members on their account at one time. The Primary member (UW Employee or UW Retiree) AND Plus One Member must be present to purchase the Plus One Membership. Payroll Deduction
Reoccurring bimonthly payroll deduction is available for purchase of a UW Employee Annual Rec Membership and/or UW Employee Plus One Membership (for qualifying UW Employees). Please inquire at the IMA Member Services Desk for bimonthly rates.
- One-time payroll deduction is available for purchase of a UW Employee annual or quarter membership and Plus One annual or quarter membership.
- If you plan to continue your membership purchased via payroll deduction, your annual membership will be automatically renewed, and your paycheck will continue to be debited unless you notify us.
- If you choose to stop payroll deduction after one year you will need to submit a payroll deduction cancellation form, available at the Member Services Desk or send a notification to cancel via email to julies14@uw.edu including your full name, employee ID number and date you would like your membership cancelled.

All new memberships must be purchased in-person at the IMA Member Services Desk. To purchase membership:
1) Bring Husky Card to Member Services Desk in IMA lobby
2) Pay using check, Husky Card, VISA/Mastercard/Discover/American Express, contactless payment, or payroll deduction (if eligible)
3) After purchase, Husky Card becomes Rec membership card
*Part-time employees without a Husky Card and Plus One members will receive a Rec membership card at time of purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions
I had an annual Rec membership when the IMA closed. What will happen to my membership?
All Annual memberships that were active on March 16th, 2020 will be extended by the number of days that were remaining on your membership. Please contact julies14@uw.edu to have your membership activated.

What is your cancellation & refund policy?
Refunds for Membership Fees require the approval of the Operations Manager. The following are viable reasons for permitting Membership Fee refunds:
- Termination of employment or withdrawal from class
- Change in employment status: shift change, home department, or job duties
- Cancelled Rec Class Pass or Intramural Pass
- Medical request: unable to use service, may include family medical leave
- Exceptions: hardship special circumstances – please email julies14@uw.edu
Refunds for check transactions must be refunded by check.
Credit card refunds must be processed via credit card transaction credit.
Refunds will include that portion (prorated) of the State Retail Sales Tax based upon the tax rate charged at the time of purchase for those transactions where the tax was applied.
Refunds are permitted in accordance with the refund schedule, available at the Member Services Desk.
For payment by reoccurring bimonthly payroll deduction:
- The payroll deduction must continue for at least one year from the date of purchase.
- The membership and deductions will continue after the first year until a cancellation form is filled out at the IMA Member Services Desk or an email is sent to julies14@uw.edu with your full name, employee ID number, and date of cancellation. There will be no refund and the deduction will be stopped according to our stop schedule. An email confirmation will be sent once the stop has been processed.
Can I sponsor more than one guest?
YES! Rec members are allowed to sponsor an unlimited number of guests per day. (fee applies).
Do you offer child care?
No. The IMA does not have child care available.
Do you offer guided tours?
The IMA offers self-guided tours. Check in at the Member Services Desk with a photo ID. If groups would like to schedule a tour, please email recinfo@uw.edu.
Can I try out the facility before purchasing a membership?
Current UW Employees and UW Retirees are eligible for a Free Week Trial (valid for 7 visits and expires in 7 days; can only be applied one time). Current non-matriculated UW Seattle students, UW Bothell or UW Tacoma students must purchase a single use pass to use the facility (see ‘Membership Types & Fees).
Who pays the Services and Activities Fee?
Registered, matriculated, UW Seattle students. You can find the ‘Services & Activities’ fee under the Tuition Charge Breakdown on your tuition statement. The fee varies depending on how many credits you are taking.

What outdoor spaces are available to use with Rec membership?
A face covering is not required outdoors. However, a face covering is encouraged when in outdoor crowded settings when there is a decreased ability to distance from others.

The following outdoor spaces are also open and do not require a reservation: Husky Rock, the grass fields that don’t have fences (Field #2 and Field #4), the Chase Anderson Basketball Court (outdoor), and Denny Field (turf).
Are there any spaces closed in the IMA?
No – all spaces are open!
The ASUW Shell House and Field #3 remain closed to Rec members.
Is there anything I need to know before arriving to the IMA? COVID-19 Restrictions?
We encourage you to help keep yourself and your fellow UW community members safe by familiarizing yourself with and following, current state and local guidelines.
- Stay home when feeling sick
- Wash hands thoroughly and properly
- Maintain proper physical distancing
- A face covering is recommended
- Disinfect equipment before and after use
We ask that everyone remember to bring their Husky Card/Rec Membership Card to limit the amount of person-to-person contact when checking in.

Before coming to the IMA for the first time, you must sign a Recreation Waiver for Facility Access. Please follow the instructions below to sign the waiver BEFORE visiting the IMA!

- Click on the purple “Log In” button in the top right corner.
- Click on the purple “UW NETID” button to log in.
- Upon logging in the first time to the online portal, you should be prompted to sign a Recreation Waiver for Facility Access. If you are not prompted to sign the Recreation Waiver for Facility Access upon signing in, click the ‘bell’ icon in the top right corner and click ‘Facility Access – Sign the waiver(s) to access facilities’ – YOU MUST SIGN THE WAIVER BEFORE ACCESSING THE IMA BUILDING.
- Click inside the gray box to sign your name.
- Sign your name inside the white box and click the purple ‘Save’ button.
- Click the purple ‘Sign Now’ button.
- Once the waiver is signed, you are ready to access the IMA!
Please bring your own water bottle. Water fill stations and water fountains are available for use throughout the facility.
Remember to clean the equipment before and after use. Sanitation stations are available throughout the facility with disinfectant wipes and rags/disinfectant spray. UW Recreation staff will clean high touch points, restrooms, etc. periodically throughout the day.
It is advised to dress in workout attire and limit the number of items you bring with you. Please bring only what you need and remember to keep your personal items with you. There are day use lockers available on the first floor, in the 2nd floor hallway (as you head to Studio 216) and in the 3rd floor hallway (as you head to Studio 316), and cell phone/wallet lockers in the 2nd floor restroom alcove and 4th floor South alcove.
What happened to the Pavilion Pool?
Over winter break 2021, the Pavilion Pool suffered a catastrophic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing failure and is closed permanently. Due to the catastrophic nature of this failure, the cost and time involved in attempting a repair were no longer feasible. UW Recreation used to manage the Pavilion Pool, but it is in the Hec. Ed. Pavilion building which is an ICA (Intercollegiate Athletics) facility. The Hec. Ed. Pavilion building is currently under construction as a part of the ICA Basketball Operations construction project.
