Project by Sara Bacon (2018)
The purpose of this project was to develop an educational escape room for the Museum of Flight’s Aviation Learning Center. Many museums have a programming gap when it comes to adult learning, and this project is meant to begin the process of filling that gap. The project was informed by four major bodies of literature: a) immersive environments, programming, and exhibits; b) immersion, game-based learning, and puzzle-based learning; c) educational game design frameworks; and d) escape room best practices. Over the course of this project, an espionage narrative was developed with twelve interconnected puzzles intended to be solved over the course of 45 minutes. The program was tested four times on-site with various stakeholder groups, after which the program was revised based on participant feedback.
