FAQs

FINANCIAL AID

How do I apply for financial aid?

To receive federal and state financial aid, you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every year. If you live in Washington and aren’t eligible for the FAFSA, you must submit the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).

The UW priority filing date for both the FAFSA and WASFA is Jan. 15 (but if you haven’t filed yet, it’s not too late). If you have filed, financial aid packages are released at the end of March or in early April. Learn more at uw.edu/financialaid/applying-for-aid.

MAJORS

What does my “assigned major” mean?

Now that you’ve been admitted, you’re assigned a major or pre-major. Most students are assigned a pre-major at the time of admission, including those who were not admitted direct to major or direct to college.

Can someone help me plan my path to my major — or even help me change it?

Yes! Most students are assigned advisers through Advising & Orientation. Your adviser will help you shape your student experience and plan your future.

FIND YOUR COMMUNITY

How do I meet other Huskies who share my interests?

Find other new and current UW students on ZeeMee, a free app that helps you build community as you make your college decision.

And as you register for classes, consider joining a First-year Interest Group (FIG), a cluster of courses that students take together in small groups during their first quarter.

As a UW student, can I travel and see the world?

Yes! Visit the UW Study Abroad website to learn where your education can take you.

CAREERS

How do I find internships or jobs on or near campus?

From drop-in coaching to job postings to networking opportunities, the UW Career & Internship Center can help you find it all.
