Exhibition tennis match and pro-am tournament will benefit UW Medical Center’s Breast Care Program
Tennis pros Michael Chang and Jan-Michael Gambill will play an exhibition match at the University of Washington’s Nordstrom Tennis Center, beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17.
A Pro-Am Doubles Tournament will be held Sunday, Sept. 19. Both events will benefit UW Medical Center’s Breast Care Program.
Chang, who owns a home on Mercer Island, is currently ranked 58th in the world in men’s singles. Gambill, a rising young tennis star who was born and raised in Spokane, is currently ranked 50th.
Chang and Gambill will follow their Friday night singles duel with a doubles match, pairing with Johnathan Stark and Patrick Galbraith. A post-exhibition party will follow, hosted by Tracey Conway of KING TV’s “Almost Live!”
First-flight doubles matches in the pro-am tournament, hosted by Chang, begin at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Second-flight matches begin at 1 p.m.
Chang will award prizes to top bidders for sponsorship of doubles teams made up of Husky tennis players or local pros paired with amateur players. Prizes include tickets to top tennis events around the world, including the U.S., French and Australian Opens, and Wimbledon.
Admission to all events, including the exhibition matches, post-exhibition party and pro-am tournament, is $100.
Entry fee for amateur player spots in the pro-am tournment is $250 and includes two tickets to the Friday night Chang-Gambill exhibition matches. Admission and tournament fees are partially tax-deductible.
All proceeds benefit UW Medical Center’s Breast Care Program, including its Breast Health Center, Breast Cancer Genetics Screening Program, and Breast Cancer Specialty Center, where the latest research is translated into state-of-the art clinical practice.
