New benefit available to UWRA parents

A change in the admission policy to two retirement communities that are partnered with the UW Retirement Association will benefit the parents of UWRA members.

UWRA parents now have admission priority over non-UWRA members at affiliated retirement communities. The communities – University House at Wallingford and University House at Issaquah, which is currently under construction – are run by ERA Care Communities.

UWRA members will continue to have first priority for admission. But the new policy grants parents, parents-in-law, stepparents, and stepparents-in-law admission priority immediately after UWRA members. Additionally, UWRA parents will pay just half the admission fee that is charged to non-UWRA members. The fee is waived altogether for members.

Both communities offer independent living and assisted living options and feature programming with academic and health-conscious emphases. Residents pay monthly for room, board and other amenities. University House at Wallingford maintains a waiting list and University House at Issaquah is now accepting depositors.

All permanent UW faculty and staff can join UWRA. More information about memberships is available by calling (206) 543-8600 or by sending e-mail to retiremt@u.washington.edu. For more information about the retirement facilities contact ERA Care Communities at (206) 625-1515.
